A TEENAGER found lying in a pool of his own blood after an alleged assault five months ago has died.
Luke Woolf, 18, passed away at Southampton General Hospital surrounded by family on Monday evening.
He had been in intensive care since he was found with serious injuries in a Southampton park in October.
Doctors had described his injuries as some of the worst they had seen.
Luke had undergone surgery for a serious head injury but remained in a critical state before his condition deteriorated further.
The teenager was found in a small park at the junction of Radcliffe Road and Augustine Road in the Northam area of the city at 6.10am on October 25.
Detectives launched a major inquiry under the codename Operation Approval.
Luke, who is from the Northam area, was found lying next to his black bike by a passer-by, who called the emergency services.
Ambulance crews rushed him to hospital, and police immediately sealed off the area around the park and closed roads nearby. A man was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the alleged attack.
In light of Luke’s death, Hampshire police said they would be taking advice from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), pending the outcome of a postmortem.
The officer leading the investigation, Det Sgt Richard Sellwood, said: “Our thoughts are with Luke’s family at this time. We will now be speaking with the CPS about how to proceed with the criminal investigation.”
● Scott Robert Townson, 20, of Radcliffe Road, Southampton, has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and is currently remanded in custody awaiting a court hearing.
