AN inquest into the death of a sailor who was killed during a visit to Hampshire was due to take place today.
Southampton coroner Keith Wiseman was set to examine the final moments in the life of Gregory Fernandes, who was literally frightened to death after being kicked and punched in a racist attack.
Mr Fernandes, 32, of Goa, India, was a crewman aboard a vessel that docked at Fawley refinery in October 2007. He and a shipmate, Vinod Pithilna-viram, 29, went for a drink at the Falcon Hotel, Fawley, and were attacked by a mob of youths as they returned to their ship.
Mr Fernandes was rescued by passer-by Jody Miles and driven back to the refinery but collapsed and died.
Last month three teenagers involved in the incident appeared at Winchester Crown Court and were jailed for a total of more than 19 years.
