IT’S a fundraising drive inspired by the memory of someone who dedicated their life raising cash for good causes.
Tomorrow this Hampshire trio will set off on a 24-hour whistle-stop tour of the British Isles – visiting all five capitals in one day.
Just to make it that little bit more challenging, Matt Piper, 28, Gareth Jones, 29, and Lloyd Jones, 26, will be doing the journey in a rally car worth just £250. The aim of the challenge is to raise money for Wendy’s Appeal, in memory of Matt’s mum who died earlier this year.
During her lifetime, Wendy spent 30 years working as charity officer for Hiltingbury Junior School in Chandler’s Ford.
Following her death Matt established the Wendy’s Appeal website to carry on the work she had undertaken during her life. This weekend’s challenge, which will see the three friends from Eastleigh heading to London, Cardiff, Dublin, Belfast and Edinburgh, will be in aid of the British Red Cross.
Matt, field sales representative at the Daily Echo, said: “My mum worked for the school for 30 years and raised money for a number of different charities and I think this is our way of continuing that work.
“We have already done one rally, we drove to Russia in a camper van in 2007 so this should be a bit easier considering its on home soil.”
