PRINCESS Anne visited a Winchester Army base’s new catering school yesterday.
The Princess Royal visited Worthy Down north of the city to unveil the new £21.9m facility, the largest of its kind in Europe.
During her three-hour tour, she saw kitchen classrooms, met trainee chefs and viewed the school’s composting facilities.
To mark the opening, she unveiled a plaque and a commemorative tree.
Major James Marshall, second-in-command of the Defence Food Services School, said: “We’re truly honoured to have the Princess Royal open the building today. It means an awful lot to everyone here.”
All army chefs, after doing their basic training, come to the school to complete a 16-week cookery course.
