POLICE have issued crime-stopping tips after a Hampshire town was hit by a spate of break-ins.

Thefts from sheds, outbuildings and cars have soared in and around Romsey. Now the town’s Safer Neighbourhoods team is launching a crackdown and wants residents to play their part.

One of the team’s officers, Rupert Murray-Twinn, said: “As a result of an increase in the number of reports of these incidents I would encourage everyone to review the security of their homes and outbuildings.

“Use an appropriate level of security for the value of what is being stored. For example something more substantial than a low cost padlock would be needed to protect a sit-on lawnmower worth more than £1,000.

“I would also like to remind motorists to think carefully when they leave their vehicle unattended.

Always lock the vehicle and remove all property from inside.

Don’t just hide it in the boot – someone could be watching you store your valuables then break in when you are out of sight.”
