A MUSICAL extravaganza is being held tonight in memory of a much-loved Hampshire teenager.
Fundraisers have organised a jazz concert showcasing top talent from around the country to pay tribute to George O’Brien.
The popular 17-year-old – a former head chorister at Romsey Abbey – died last November from a lymphoma, having shown no symptoms of the disease.
Parents Joe and Jane are setting up a trust in his name to support cancer charities.
Their funds will be receiving an early boost from a concert tonight at the Concorde Club in Eastleigh.
The organisers of the evening, Ady and Tracey Fripp, are friends of the O’Briens and spotted the opportunity to help out.
Their son, London-based saxophonist Matt Fripp, as well as top singer Anthony Strong and The New Antonian’s Swing Orchestra, will all perform on the night.
Tracey said: “It’s always difficult to know what to do, so we hoped we could help to kick-start the trust fund with this concert.
“Tickets are already selling very well.”
George’s dad Joe said: “This is just the sort of thing George would have loved.
“I’m sure he would be really happy and proud about it.”
