THIS pair of new arrivals at a Hampshire zoo certainly have a nose for making the news.
The Brazilian Tapirs arrived at Marwell Wildlife three weeks ago and, despite their odd appearance, have not caused too much of a stir among the other inhabitants.
Ronny, six, and eight-year-old Summer came from a private collection in West Sussex last month.
The semi-aquatic species use its odd looking nose for grabbing vegetation and avoiding predators by diving underwater and using it like a snorkle to breathe.
Keeper Jody Geary, said: “They are a brilliant fun. We haven’t had a pair for about 12 years now.
“They are a proper pair of characters and real fun to have around. Hopefully there will be babies in the future but for now we are enjoying having new additions to Marwell Wildlife.”
