WE MAY never know why an experienced sailor climbed into the ballast tank where he died, a coroner said today.
Despite knowing the risks second boson Joselito Zordilla flouted safety procedures and entered the low oxygen tank.
Coroner Keith Wiseman said he must have known it was dangerous but "took a chance".
He went to say that it appeared Mr Zordilla climbed in to test the water or retrieve some equipment dropped.
The 43-year-old died on the Saga Rose cruise ship on June 11 last year. A narrative verdict recorded that he died of entering the ballast tank and did not follow any of the safety procedures.
