FIREFIGHTERS fought a blaze which swept through a basement flat in Gosport last night.
They were called to the scene at Pavilion Way at about 10.26 pm where they found smoke pouring out of the building which is in the former St Georges Barracks currently being redeveloped.
No one was in the flat at the time and fire crews, wearing breathing sets, from Fareham and Gosport, dealt with the incident. Sixteen firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
A fire brigade spokesman said that flat was mostly smoke damaged.
