THE body of a man was found by the side of a railway line in Southampton early today.
A train driver reported the horrific discovery between Southampton Airport Parkway and Swaythling stations shortly after 7am.
His body was found lying beside London bound line.
British Transport Police have launched an investigation.
A spokesman said: “The dead man’s injuries are consistent with being hit by a train.”
Services between London Waterloo and Southampton were being disrupted with delays of to 50 minutes up to 1pm.
South West Trains is running an hourly service between London Waterloo and Weymouth via Fareham, and will not call at Southampton Airport Parkway.
An hourly service will run between Southampton Central and Weymouth.
Services between London Waterloo and Poole will run between Southampton Central and Poole.
A bus service will run between Southampton Central and Eastleigh.
Some CrossCountry services may be diverted causing delay of up to 30 minutes.
