THE cremated remains of a woman have been stolen from a car in Hampshire.
Sometime between 11.30am and 1.10pm today, an urn containing ashes was stolen from a vehicle in Buriton, near Petersfield.
The Nissan was parked in a car park off Kiln Lane when a dark green paper bag was stolen from the boot, Inside the bag were a cremation certificate and a plastic, light brown travel urn which contained the ashes of the vehicle owner’s mother.
PC Dave Baker, of Petersfield police station, said: “The victim is desperate to trace the urn as she was collecting her father and was on her way to scatter her mother’s ashes in another part of the country. The urn itself is of very little value.
“This has been an extremely distressing incident for the victim and we would ask anyone with information to contact police immediately.”
Anyone with information about the incident should contact PC Dave Baker at Petersfield police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
