A SOUTHAMPTON man has been killed after a car collided head on with the van he was driving.
Dean Everson was at the wheel of the U Drive transit van as it travelled along the A303 in Wiltshire.
According to Wiltshire police a Mini Cooper car being driven by a 25-woman from London left the eastbound carriageway and ploughed through the central reservation into the path of the oncoming van being driven by Mr Everson.
The 41-year-old from the Thornhill area of the city died at the scene from injuries he suffered in the accident.
A 21-year-old man who was a passenger in the van was seriously injured and taken to Salisbury District Hospital. The driver of the Mini was also admitted to hospital.
Police closed the road at Beacon Hill at Amesbury following the accident that happened just after 5pm yesterday. It did not reopen until 3.30am today following extensive repairs and resurfacing of the carriageway.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to come forward. PC Wilkins of Wiltshire police said currently it wasn’t clear why the Mini left the carriageway and crossed into the path of the van.
