A WEDDING turned to a violent punch-up outside Southampton Guildhall last night.

More than 400 people were at the venue celebrating the Sikh wedding when trouble flared.

Around 30 guests were involved in the fight which took place outside the Guildhall and left one man with injuries after he was hit in the face with a beer bottle.

Police were called to the scene at 10.07pm and a 20-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He was taken into custody and this morning remains in the cells at Southampton police station awaiting questioning.

The injured man was taken to Southampton General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries before being released.

A cordon put in place around the scene while enquiries were carried out has since been lifted, but police are appealing for any witnesses to call Shirley CID on 0845 045 4545.
