GO online with the Daily Echo this week and witness the hatching of some of the New Forest’s rarest birds.
We have joined New Forest Gateway to sharing in the lives of a pair of goshawks as they sit on their eggs at a secret location in the forest, thanks to a nestcam.
The eggs that the pair have guarded since April are expected to hatch this week.
The adults have suffered heavy downpours, an unwelcome visit from insects and have had to continually rebuild their nest, but are still on course for the chicks to hatch between now and Sunday.
People have been logging in from as far away as Canada to check out the goshawk project, run jointly by the RSPB, New Forest NPA, the Forestry Commission and Carnyx Wild.
Hester Phillips from RSPB South East said: “It’s getting close to the big day now. The male has been very attentive, bringing in a good amount of food and even incubating the eggs for the female so she can stretch her wings.
“She never goes far and is always in eyesight of the nest.”
If all goes well, the chicks are expected to fledge between June 10 and 15.
