EASTLEIGH MP Chris Huhne is among the latest bunch of MPs to have their expenses claims revealed.
Mr Huhne, the Liberal Democrat's home affairs spokesman, claimed for a £119 trouser press that was delivered to his main home rather than his designated second address. He has agreed to pay back the money.
The MP has since released the complete record of the expenses he has claimed.
It was also reported Mr Huhne, who ran twice for the leadership of the party, claimed for fluffy dusters and the upkeep of his "pergola cross beam".
He said: "The trouser press was taken to my Eastleigh home for use before constituency events, but I have repaid the cost of £119 as my aim on second home claims has always been to avoid controversy.
"My constituency staff used dusters to keep the office clean. This is where I see my constituents and members of the public, and it was not a personal claim.
"There was a general routine repainting of the exterior of my Eastleigh home, and a pergola is a grand name for a plant trestle."
Mr Huhne said his claims were the lowest of any Hampshire MP, a fifth of David Cameron's claims, and 17 per cent of the maximum.
He said it ranked him as 580th MP out of the 620 MPs entitled to claim the second home allowance.
The disclosure of claims submitted by 12 Lib Dems, "from senior spokesmen to a number of back benchers", come on the sixth day of an investigation into MPs' expenses by a national newspaper.
Party leader Nick Clegg claimed the maximum second home allowance and exceeded his budget by more than £100 at the same time he was calling for reform of the system. He reportedly promised to repay a phone bill that included calls to Vietnam and Colombia.
Chris Huhne's Expenses
It has emerged Lib Dem MPs are to be banned from using public money to make a profit dealing on the property market.
Mr Clegg has previously pledged any capital gain made from selling off his taxpayer-funded second home will be repaid. The instruction is to be circulated to the rest of the parliamentary party today.
Under the new rule, Lib Dem MPs will only be entitled to capital gains based on the amount of their own money that has gone on improvements and servicing mortgages.
MPs can claim a maximum of £24,006 towards the costs of a second home - away from their main residence - to enable them to perform their parliamentary duties.
