ON your marks, get set, go! Southampton Hospital Charity is urging people to put on their running shoes and take part in its first ever 5km fun run. Everyone is invited to join in the event this Sunday.
Money raised from the fundraising run at The Gregg School in Southampton at 11am will go towards charity projects at Southampton General and the Princess Anne hospitals.
Some of the money will also go towards the charity’s Red and White Appeal, backed by the Daily Echo, which aims to raise £2.2m for a new haematology day case unit.
Among those raising money for the appeal is grandmother of seven Shirley Marke from Romsey. It is a cause that is close to the 71-year-old’s heart after her husband Paul, a retired geophysicist, died last year, aged 69, from multiple myeloma, a cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow.
To take part call 023 8079 8881 or simply turn up and register on the day. The cost is £12 for adults and £7 for children.
