Silver Surfers’ Day is Britain’s biggest campaign to get senior citizens online.
Being online is becoming more and more of a necessity as information and services are increasingly Internet-based. Special offers and discounts often favour online shopping and booking, but more than ten million senior citizens are missing out because they don’t have basic IT skills and Internet access.
Southampton is marking Silver Surfers’ Day with free Internet taster sessions in the Central Library today, from 10am to 2pm.
Computer classes for over-50s are available at the 3rd Age Centre, off Onslow Road, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Call Trevor on 023 8071 1700.
Age Concern Southampton runs computer classes in Shirley on Wednesday mornings, and at its city centre office on Fridays. Call 023 8036 8636. For more information about adult learning, contact your local college or library.
