NOISY university students in Southampton are to be targeted in a new crackdown to help local residents get a peaceful night’s sleep.
As part of Noise Action Week, Southampton City Council will stage exhibitions to demonstrate to students how loud and late night noise impacts on their neighbours.
It comes after the Daily Echo revealed noise complaints – from barking dogs to loud late night music and even early morning lawnmowers – had reached record levels in the city.
Residents made 5,367 calls to the council’s out of hours noise service in the 2007/08 financial year – a rise of 23 per cent on the previous year.
Students will receive advice about preventing noise problems and encouraged to be more considerate to their community.
The stands will be at Southampton University today and tomorrow, at Southampton Solent University on Wednesday and Friday and at Southampton City College on Thursday.
