ORGANISERS of a fundraising day for Southampton Football Club say that the event is set to make a profit despite a disappointing turnout.
The Saints Aid concert and fun day was supposed to raise cash for the crisis-hit club, but while the car park at St Mary’s hosted a fun fair in the afternoon, the expected crowds failed to turn up.
In the evening a fundraising concert featured locals bands including The Docks, Big Numb and Afrodisiac.
Some 350 tickets were sold, according to one of the organisers, Lee Marchant, who said: “It is a shame more people did not turn up, but the event was fantastic. The music was brilliant.
“Financially it wasn’t a complete disaster. There was a good atmosphere and everybody enjoyed it.”
Mr Marchant said that it was too early to say exactly how much had been raised, but he expects Saturday’s event to at least break even.
Tonight sees the Artful Dodger headline a concert at Oceana at Leisureworld from 8pm. Anyone with tickets from the St Mary’s concert can get into tonight’s show free.
