PASSENGERS were left stranded in the middle of Southampton Water this afternoon after the Hythe Ferry broke down.
The ferry stopped mid-journey at around 3pm due to mechanical problems and is currently being towed back to Hythe Pier to be fixed.
A spokesman for Hythe Ferry said another boat is being drafted in to resume the service and should be operational from 5.10pm.
The Hythe to Southampton Ferry operates every 30 minutes between Town Quay and Hythe Pier.
