THOUSANDS of front line staff are to be recruited into Jobcentre Plus in an effort to get people back into work, the government announced today.
Around 10,000 "customer facing advisers" will support jobseekers with CV writing and skills training to searching for a job and interview techniques.
One and a half million people are currently claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), with 363,900 new claims for the benefit made last month.
Secretary of State for Work and Pensions James Purnell said: "We know we need to provide extra resources for people who are looking for work in this global recession and that's why we are hiring thousands more frontline staff to give job seekers the real help they need to get back to work.
"Because of this, we will be able to provide more one-to-one advice for more people and better support for those looking for work."
There are 455,000 jobs across the country waiting to be filled and Jobcentre Plus is continuing to receive on average 10,000 vacancies every working day.
The Chancellor committed another £1.7bn in the Budget to help Jobcentre Plus and for employment programmes for the long term unemployed.
Some of this money will go towards bringing in the 10,000 new frontline staff.
