THREE members of staff at the University of Winchester are suspected to have caught swine flu.
A spokesman at the university said that three members of staff are in contact with their GPs after developing flu-like symptoms but have not been sent to hospital.
University bosses say a potential source could be a member of staff’s partner who recently returned from a holiday in the US with the same symptoms.
The three staff members who have developed flu-like symptoms either live together or car share. They have been asked to remain at home in isolation.
A university spokesman said: “It’s being treated seriously. The university is monitoring the situation closely and is receiving advice from the Health Protection Agency. Staff and students are being made aware of the situation. They are also being reminded of the symptoms of A/H1N1 and precautionary measures that can be taken to prevent the spread of the disease.”
The spokesman confirmed there were no immediate plans to close the university on advice from the Health Protection Agency.
