SOLDIERS from the south became caught up in a fierce firefight that left one seriously injured after being shot in the leg.

The platoon from A company, 2nd Battalion, Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, came under attack in Afghanistan just four days before they were due to return home from the frontline.

The troops were separated as Taliban fighters aimed fire, eventually managing to hit one of the soldiers - collectively known as The Tigers.

The dramatic moments, including the heroic rescue of their injured colleague as he was dragged through an irrigation ditch, have been captured on footage from a helmet-cam worn by one of the soldiers during the battle.
