HUNDREDS of people were expected to turn out today to celebrate the life of a muchloved 20-year-old who died suddenly at home.
Student Tom Hay was found lying dead on his bedroom floor by his mum the day after he had spent a fun night out with his friends. The cause of death remains a mystery after post-mortem examination results proved inconclusive.
This afternoon friends will pay personal tributes during a 90- minute memorial service, designed to be a celebration of Tom’s life, which will take place at Central Hall in St Mary Street, Southampton. The coffin will first stop outside Solent University where dozens are expected to join the funeral procession on foot.
Tom, who lived with his mum Vivien and sister Jennifer in Chilworth Old Village, was studying advertising at the university.
The memorial will be followed by a committal service for close family and friends at the crematorium. Other friends are being asked to gather at The Edge nightclub.
The body of the former Gregg School pupil was found on January 19. An inquest has been opened and adjourned.
■ Tom’s family have asked that no flowers are brought, but would welcome donations to homeless charity Shelter.
