PLANS for Southampton’s £15m Sea City Museum go on public display for the first time tomorrow.
A model and artists’ impression of the proposed heritage museum will be on show in the City Art Gallery for one week.
As revealed by the Daily Echo in December, the museum will feature a cruise-liner inspired extension to the west wing of the Civic Centre.
Known as “The Pavilion”, Southampton City Council hopes it will bring international blockbuster exhibitions to the city for the first time.
The old magistrates’ courts will be transformed into two permanent exhibitions, titled “Southampton’s Titanic Story”
and “Gateway to the World”.
There will be an opportunity to meet some of the project team, including the architects, on Tuesday, February 9, between 4pm and 7pm.
A planning application has been submitted as well as bid for £4.6m to the Heritage Lottery Fund. If successful, the council will have to raise the remaining £10m.
Plans to sell an Alfred Munnings painting and Auguste Rodin sculpture have been put on hold.
A charity fundraising drive, named the Southampton Cultural Development Trust, is due to be launched.
