THIS is the plate of food that has brought the row over Southampton’s hospital meals bubbling back to the boil.

It was served to a 62-year-old patient who was so disgusted he took the photograph right and sent it to the Daily Echo. The man, who was being treated for a heart condition, described it as “unpalatable”.

He joins the long list of patients criticising the controversial new catering arrangements introduced at Southampton General and Princess Anne hospitals.

Now city MP John Denham has demanded an urgent investigation.

Hospital bosses and their contract caterers have defended the service.
