AN AMATEUR photographer has seen her name and work plastered on city billboards after snapping the winning picture in a competition.
Mum-of-four Melanie Grimes, 37, of Bassett, Southampton, won a Yellow Pages comp-etition to capture an iconic image of the city with her photograph of the Civic Centre.
Now it is being displayed across the city as part of an advertising campaign.
Melanie said: “I’ve got a thing about looking up and taking photos of the clouds, which is when I took this one. It is really bizarre to see my work and name so huge.”
Zandra Ives, head of advertising of Yellow Pages, said: “Our whole ethos is based around connecting local businesses with people that need their services in the local area. Running this competition enabled us to let the local community have a voice in what best represents Southampton to them.
“Melanie’s photo was an original but recognisable image of Southampton.”
