CHILDREN at a Hampshire school held a Hats for Haiti Day to raise funds for victims of the earthquake disaster.
Pupils at Tiptoe Primary School, near Lymington, gave a donation in return for being allowed to wear unusual items of headwear in class.
They went to school dressed in sombreros and the sort of hats worn by jesters and knights in shining armour.
The school’s campaign to help Haiti got off to a head start following a visit from members of New Milton Rotary Club.
Rotary International is sending the island a huge number of Shelter Boxes packed with equipment designed to help residents survive in the aftermath of the ’quake.
Pupils at the school were shown one of the £490 boxes and decided to fund one themselves.
Head teacher Jacqui Pearsson said: “We held a Hats for Haiti Day that raised £390, which is an incredible amount of money for a small school with 110 pupils.”
