A HAMPSHIRE man set fire to a student dressed as a sheep in a pub, a court heard today.
The 19-year-old victim spent nearly a month in hospital after his costume was allegedly set alight at the Headingley Taps pub in Leeds last October.
Jason Whatley, 38, of Faroes Close, Fareham, appeared before magistrates in Leeds today charged with arson reckless as to whether life was endangered.
Two other people in similar costumes also caught fire when the flames spread, the court was told.
Magistrates were told Whatley also faces assault charges in connection with the two other victims.
He was bailed to appear at Leeds Crown Court next Tuesday.
During today's brief hearing he spoke only to confirm his name, age, address and that he understood the proceedings.
