AN investigation is underway after a man attempted to abduct a schoolgirl as she walked along a road.
The 14-year-old was on her way to meet friends in Southampton when a car pulled up beside her and a man beckoned her to him.
He then tried to pull her towards him but she managed to break free and run off.
Detectives are investigating and have leafleted houses in the vicinity of Peach Road, Aldermoor, where the attempt snatch happened.
They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw a silver Volkswagen Golf in the area between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Monday.
It's believed that two men were in the vehicle, one of whom had black, spiky hair.
DC Nick Rogers said: "Incidents like this can be worrying and we're working hard to catch the offender.
"The girl is clearly shaken, but she did the right thing by running off. I'd ask parents to remind their children about how to stay safe.
"People in the area can also help by reporting anything suspicious immediately to the police.
Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Rogers at Shirley CID on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
