A FORMER Isle of Wight hotel owner’s son smiled when he received what he had asked for – a prison sentence.
Shaun Battle, 40, wanted to be locked up so he could receive medication and then make a fresh start by trying to find accommodation without a community order hanging over him.
Battle, of no fixed address, had been given nine months supervision and a six-month alcohol treatment requirement for common assault, but he had failed to keep two supervision appointments with the Probation Service.
“He wants a prison sentence,” said defence barrister David Jenkins.
“He has no accommodation and can’t get medication. He says he suffers from manic depression. He then wants to go back to the Isle of Wight and find a job in a hotel.”
Judge Peter Ralls QC granted his wish and jailed him for 28 days.
