SO, Sunday is the new Saturday.

Confusion reigned at Pontin’s Prestatyn Sands Holiday Centre, North Wales, just an hour after the draw for the week-long Lt Col Walter Rowley OBE Junior Star of the Future festival.

The UK’s biggest and richest junior snooker tournament attracted 168 players, 52 in the under-15 tournament and 116 in the under-21 event.

However, after the draw in the Queen Vic pub, the first-day’s running order, on the wall of the first-floor landing, stated matches start on Sunday.

Within 15 minutes, ‘Sun’ was swiftly changed to ‘Sat’.

A 26-strong Chandler’s Ford Mob arrived safely on Jordan Winbourne’s 14th birthday for the annual jamboree of junior snooker.

Did you know Bouwe’s dad is a freelance brain surgeon?

That’s a handy phone number to have pinned on your fridge.

Plumber...electrician...hairdresser...brain surgeon...

I popped into the nerve centre of global-snooker.com for a cup of team and a chat with the indefatigable Janie Watkins, who recounted a story about strawberry flavoured condoms from her days on the women’s circuit.

We have six lads in each of the two age groups.

Under-21s: Ollie Tydeman (C/Ford), Dan Hildyard (Fair Oak), Jason Hildyard (Fair Oak), Billy Castle (Marchwood), Daniel Woods (Hedge End) and Nick Jennings (Southampton).

Under-15s: Bouwe Bosma (C/Ford), Shane Castle (Marchwood), Adam Bobat (Fareham), Jordan Winbourne (Hedge End), Ben Courcha (Marchwood) and Scott Danson (Marchwood).

And not forgetting the 14-strong support crew: Jeffery Castle, Shane’s Uncle Albert, Bouwe’s mum Bo, Chris Winbourne, Wayne and Fi Danson (who upgraded to club class so they get a carpet), Alex Dunkley, Josh Baird, Steve Hildyard, Mo Bobat and Gail, Steve Woods, Nick’s mum Pauline and a certain Daily Echo snooker writer.

Shane and Jordan are in the same group with James Cahill, Sam Whitfield, Daniel Rogers, Thomas Davies and Hannah Jones. We believe they play each other twice and the top four qualify.

The finals are on Thursday.

There is one sad piece of news. Without a quorum, the AGM of Snooker Dads Anonymous, due to take place in the usual corner of the Queen Vic, had to be adjourned until Saturday as Derek Castle was forced to send his apologies.
