A last-minute injury has boosted the chances of Hampshire’s very own dancing queen in tonight’s So You Think You Can Dance final.
Lizzie Gough will now only face competition from two others on the BBC1 hit show tonight after finalist Robbie White was forced to pull out after dislocating his shoulder.
Robbie, nicknamed the Stockport Spider on the show, suffered the blow after crashing to the floor during practise this week and doctors told him it would be months before he could move his arm again.
This means that Lizzie will only need to get more public votes than Charlie Bruce and Tommy Franzen to be crowned Britain’s favourite dancer and bag the £100,000 prize plus the chance to dance in Hollywood.
The 25-year-old’s legion of fans will be waving their banners with pride, gripped in a voting frenzy in the hope that she will be crowned dancing champ.
While her mum, dad and brothers cheer her on from the studio audience, young dancers at the Fitzell-Roberts School of Dancing in Sholing will be glued to their television screens at home.
Lizzie, from Bursledon, has become a dance idol to those at her former dance school, where she first began dancing aged four.
Her former dance teacher Marion Roberts said: “She always worked extremely hard and this is the pay off for all her efforts.”
Mum Janice added: “It has been fantastic for us because we rarely get the chance to see her perform.
n So You Think You Can Dance from 7.45pm on BBC1.
