SOUTHAMPTON’S Elio Pace is to begin his stint on Sir Terry Wogan’s new BBC radio show today.
The celebrated musician, singer and songwriter was chosen by Sir Terry to be the musical director and Band Leader of his house band.
Elio, who lived in Eastleigh for many years, played a triumphant homecoming gig at The Brook last weekend ahead of his new role.
He has been thrilling audiences around the world with his soulful voice and amazing piano playing for over 20 years and has worked with the likes of Huey Lewis, Ronan Keating and Martha Reeves.
He has been described as “one of the best kept secrets in the world” by Dave Lee Travis and fan Sir Terry Wogan has now invited him to join his latest stint on Radio 2 Weekend Wogan, which is broadcast live from the Radio Theatre in London.
Elio said: “For him to have picked me out from all the millions of people trying to do what I was doing is amazing.
“I will be opening the show every week with the band, then I will be providing the backing for some of the artists.
“I get to sing three songs as well as playing the introduction music for all the guests appearing on the show.
“It’s such an honour.”
Elio’s self penned album A Seat At My Table was released last year and features special guest appearances by Elvis Presley’s bass player, Jerry Scheff and guitar legend, Albert Lee.
He also sang on the movie soundtrack for Severance that went on to receive an Ivor Novello Award nomination. Tune in to Weekend Wogan this morning from 11am.
