THERE was no angry stand-off between rival sets of fans and certainly no mounted police before or after Saturday’s tension-charged big match.

Although reports do suggest that a Pontin’s security guard was spotted with his feet up in the back room enjoying a cup of tea while struggling with the Sun crossword.

Following England international Jordan Winbourne’s 2-0 victory over England ladies star Hannah Jones, Hedge End fans were singing in the streets while Derby supporters retired to their chalet (no doubt to consume vast quantities of burnt toast).

I must say Jordan was looking focused and strong, a delight to watch.

Shane Castle opened day two of the week-long junior festival with a 30 break and some excellent long potting in a 2-0 win over James Cahill.

Billy Castle picked up two wins and a draw in the group of death which includes: Anthony McGill (the pride of Scotland), Mitchell Mann (the pride of Birmingham) and Kyren Wilson (the pride of Kettering). Billy chalked up breaks of 42, 42 and 48.

Daniel Woods was cueing like an angel as he knocked in a 41 in a 2-0 victory late last evening. Watching him, it’s difficult to understand how he lost his earlier two games.

However, the result of the day must go to Ollie Tydeman – a 2-0 win against Welsh star Jak Jones, the reigning Pontin’s under-16 champion and a lad tipped to turn pro next season if he can stay in the top eight on the PIOS (he’s currently sixth).

After a defeat in the afternoon, debut boy Bouwe Bosma quickly adapted to the tables and notched up his first Prestatyn victory over James Paul.

It’s played three, won three for Nick Jennings. Dan Hildyard was undefeated in two. Jason Hildyard is still looking for a first win (we think it can be found down in the dungeon). Scott Danson and Ben Courcha lost their openers and Adam Bobat won his only match.

Shane plays five matches today. At 7.50pm, he faces Jordan.

There is one sad piece of news. Without a quorum, the reconvened AGM of Snooker Dads Anonymous, due to take place in the bar by the dancefloor, had to be adjourned until Sunday as Derek Castle was yet again forced to send his apologies.

And shock news has just come in that Jeffery and Uncle Albert held a breakaway meeting yesterday afternoon after the football. We will, of course, bring you more as the situation develops.
