IT’S the joy of six for the Chandler’s Ford Mob in Prestatyn.

After three and a half days of hard grind in the round-robin group stages, the Hampshire lads stepped up to the plate yesterday afternoon and produced individual performances of dazzling brilliance.

Pontin’s woke to the incessant screeching of the wretched sea gulls mingled with the ding dong of the blasted church bells.

But by the time that the only sound left in the night sky was the thud, thud from Lunars nightclub, six of our 12 youngsters had qualified for today’s last-32 draw.

Shane Castle, Jordan Winbourne and Adam Bobat eased through the under-15s while Nick Jennings, as expected, qualified in the under-21s.

Bouwe Bosma picked up the one frame in needed in his final match to reach the last-32 on his debut.

Ollie Tydeman knocked in an 85 to take his last frame of the group stages and with his new best friend Jak Jones taking a frame off Liam Highfield, a place in the knockout was secured.

As to the performance of the day, take your pick from the Magnificent Seven:

One: Jordan Winbourne’s 41 clearance from 39 behind with two reds left against James Cahill. And his pink-ball frame victory after Shane led with a 53 break. Final result: 1-1.

Two: Shane Castle’s 102 against Derby’s Hannah Jones on table 13 down in the dungeon.

Three: Bouwe Bosma qualifying with two wins and a draw on day four.

Four: Daniel Woods scoring 50 and 51 in the same frame.

Five: Jason winning his first match – on table one – to earn a meal at Gail’s. And then winning another.

Six: Ollie Tydeman beating Liam Highfield. (And in response to a certain England international heard saying: “Some bloke I’ve never heard of has got 30 points.” His name’s Ollie Tydeman, he’s left-handed, he’s got a cue action to die for and he’s from Chandler’s Ford.)

Seven: Ben Courcha chalking up a first frame, on the black of course, in his final match.

Scott Danson drew with Scottish junior international Anthony Nardone and narrowly missed out on a top four spot. Billy Castle wrapped up his week with a 70 break but failed to escape the group of death.

The Plate starts at 9.30am today and the KO beings at high noon. Shane and Jordan have matching records and must play a one-frame play-off for the seeded position.

Alas, there is one sad piece of news. After a 14 hour day, the reconvened AGM of Snooker Dads Anonymous had to be adjourned until Wednesday as the noise in the Queen Vic was as bad, or worse than, the racket in the bar by the dancefloor. Derek Castle yet again sent his apologies.

However, those present did vote to hand over the pot to Steve ‘The Birdman of Pontin’s’ Hildyard for being the first committee member to pull this week.

The bird in question - which stopped play in the morning on the four tables in the West Arena before being pinned into a corner and captured by Steve - was released back into the wild, albeit slightly damaged after her frightening ordeal.
