A PARALYMPIC gold medallist has urged disabled people to make the most of the disability sports in Hampshire.
Peter Hull, who is the county’s disability sports officer, hopes people will try the range of activities taking off in the county so that disabled youngsters and adults can get the same opportunities he has enjoyed.
Boccia, a game similar to petanque, new age kurling and wheelchair basketball are just some of the sports offered in the area for people with sensory, physical or learning difficulties.
As the 2012 Paralympics approaches, Peter, who was born with no legs and with short arms, wants Hampshire residents with disabilities to take inspiration from sport and the athletes competing.
His aim is to make sure everyone in the area has access to a full range of sporting opportunities.
Peter, who won three gold medals and set three world records at the Barcelona Games in 1992 in swimming events, said: “I believe you should look at what disabled people can do rather than at what they can’t do."
