A MAN arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found with serious head injuries has been released without charge.

Police said the 43-year-old woman, whom they named as Jennifer Hurl, had died as a result of a tragic accident.

Officers were called to her home at Cadhay Close, New Milton, on Monday afternoon.

Ms Hurl was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where she died six hours later. Police sealed off the house and arrested a 42-year-old man, believed to be her partner.

Scenes-of-crime officers spent all day yesterday examining the house and taking photographs of the scene.

Last night, a post-mortem examination conducted by a Home Office pathologist confirmed that Ms Hurl had died of head injuries.

Detective Inspector Nick Heelan, who led the investigation, said: "All unexpected deaths are treated seriously by Hampshire Constabulary and are fully investigated.

"After conducting extensive enquiries into Ms Hurl's death, from all the evidence gathered and the outcome of the post-mortem, everything indicates that this death was the result of a very tragic accident."

Police have not revealed the nature of the accident.

However, they confirmed that no further action would be taken against the man they arrested, who has not been named.
