AS Southern Water was warning about a water shortage, the Environment Agency was alerting people to look out for flooding in their cellars.
It said the water table had been above average since a very wet November. In its latest report, it warned that some cellars and lowlying areas in Soberton, Hambledon, Denmead and Meonstoke could be at risk.
Groundwater around the River Itchen, Hursley and King’s Somborne is also high.
The agency is advising residents to keep drains clear and move any valuables out of cellars if they live in flood-prone areas.
