A GROUP of monks have been told to apply for planning permission after turning their Hampshire home into a mini monastery and temple. Four Buddhist monks are holding twice-daily prayer and meditation sessions at Marine Cottage, Barton-on-Sea, which has been turned into a vihara.
However, the monks have been told to apply for retrospective planning permission.
Documents accompanying the application say: “The monks who reside in the vihara will lead a simple and disciplined life; they turn aside from the materialistic values in order to develop an inner understanding...”
New Milton Town Council will debate the plan next Thursday.
