THE driver involved in a fatal accident kept repeating over and over again how the victim had “come from nowhere”, jurors heard.
Pc Jeannette Denton told Southampton Crown Court that she spoke to Julia Moore after she had knocked down cyclist Greg Dear at the junction of Millbrook Road West and Regents Park Road.
Pc Denton said Moore was shaking, crying and quite hysterical and had a cut to her right index finger. She also said she had hit her head.
After being cautioned, Moore described what happened as she approached the Millbrook Road lights.
She told Pc Denton: “It went from green to yellow. I was in the outside lane slowing from 50mph. I drove across the line. He was right in the middle of my lane.
“I hit the brakes really hard with both feet like you do in an emergency stop, the way they show you in a driving test. I couldn't see where I was or where I stopped. Everything went dark.”
Moore said that after the accident, she immediately rang the police and ambulance on her mobile phone.
The prosecution claims the 31-year-old jumped the lights in her Fiat Punto.
Moore, of Rownhams Road, Southampton, denies causing death by dangerous driving.
