TRANSFORMING a drab courtyard into a bright and fun place to learn about green and healthy living is the dream for pupils at Shamblehurst Primary School.
The Hedge End school is the latest to apply for cash through the Daily Echo and Leadbitter’s £6,000 School Build Challenge.
Year 6 pupils Beth Mayers and Hannah Summers submitted the application, to help with a project identified by the school council.
Children have told staff they want to make the courtyard a central feature where they can plant flowers and vegetables, watch birds, and use play equipment to help stay fit.
“We would like recreate it into something more creative, as it is blank and plain,” wrote Beth and Hannah.
“We would like to add a shed, flowers, greenhouse, flower pots and organic soil, as well as a few bird feeders and bird food as we love to look after the environment, and a pot of paint for the shed to make it look more attractive.”
Feature School business manager Gail George said: “We want it to be a real feature for the site that fits in with our healthy school status.”
All infant, junior and primary schools in the Daily Echo circulation area are being encouraged to take part in the School Build Challenge.
Work up to the value of £3,000, £2,000 and £1,000, carried out by skilled professionals from construction company Leadbitter, are up for grabs for any outdoor project.
All schools have to do is fill in the application form on this page by the end of the month, and tell us what they want to achieve and why.
A judging panel will select the ten best entries, and it will then be up to Daily Echo readers to pick the winners.
