A YUMMY Mummy is all about being happy, rather than looking fab – so say mums in Southampton. The poll of mums was carried out in the city as part of a fundraising drive by children’s charity CLIC Sargent, which has named this the official Yummy Mummy Week.
Mums in Southampton were asked for their views on what they believed it meant to be a ‘real life’ Yummy Mummy. Almost a third (31 per cent) opted for someone who overall is happy and content with her life and role as a mum.
The research was carried out to mark the start of Yummy Mummy Week, that encourages mums of all ages to get together with friends and family and have fun hosting their own event to raise vital funds for families affected by childhood cancer.
The face of this year’s national Yummy Mummy Week 2010, actress Patsy Palmer, said: “It is fantastic that so many mums across the UK truly know what it means to be a ‘real life’ Yummy Mummy. And that the Yummiest Mummies are those who are believed to be truly happy and content with their life and role as a mum.”
Mothers were also asked what would be the best present they could receive this Mother’s Day, with the top answer being a family day out – 36 per cent.
All of those asked put their nearest and dearest above more self-indulgent treats such as two hours of uninterrupted ‘me time’ (14 per cent) or simply a break from domestic duties with either a day off from cooking (seven per cent) or the household chores (six per cent).
Katie Barlow, CLIC Sargent’s national events manager for Yummy Mummy, said: “What better way to be a ‘real life’ Yummy Mummy than hosting your own Yummy Mummy event, such as a coffee morning, barbecue or a sponsored welly walk, and have some fun together as a family?
“It is the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with friends and family, while knowing every penny raised will make a world of difference to the thousands of children and young people undergoing treatment for cancer and their families.”
