IT’S a rousing number to give Saints a big send-off to Wembley.
Southampton punk band The Flying Alexanders have recorded a song to mark the club reaching the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.
The group has released Paint the Town online as the club prepares to March to the Arch on Sunday, March 28.
The song harks back to past Saints glories like the FA Cup win in 1976 and names club heroes such as Matt Le Tissier, Kevin Keegan, Mick Channon, Bobby Stokes, Ted Bates and Lawrie McMenemy.
But it is also looks forward with optimism to the promise of future success under Swiss owner Marcus Liebherr and manager Alan Pardew.
The song took just one weekend to write and record.
The group already had a backing track, which was originally intended for a fundraising single while the club was in administration last year.
Lead singer Jon Sansom said: “It’s all about celebrating the rebirth of Saints and I think this trophy is symbolic of the start of that.
“All that doom and gloom last summer cast a real dark cloud over the city, but now everyone seems to be optimistic again.
The band is making at least the first 100 downloads of the song free. It is available at theflyingalexanders.bandcamp.com.
