MATTHEW BARNEY finally came face-to-face with arch-rival Carl Froch - and believes he claimed a psychological advantage.

The duo fight live on ITV tomorrow night for the British and Commonwealth title, but clashed at yesterday's pre-fight press conference.

"I looked at him and his eyes were everywhere - all over the room," said Barney, pictured in action left.

The Southampton super-middleweight will take on the outspoken Froch in front of the champion's home fans at Nottingham Ice Rink.

But after giving up his British title almost two years ago, Barney is now determined to reclaim the prestigious Lonsdale belt.

"My training has gone well and I'm just looking forward to tomorrow night," he said.

"I want to shut his mouth. He is always talking about other fighters, but who has he ever fought?"

Barney faces Froch following what was probably the best performance of his career when he was controversially beaten for the European title despite appearing to have out-boxed German Thomas Ulrich.

A former holder of the WBU light-heavyweight title, the 31-year-old is renowned for his boxing skills and is certain he has the quality to deal with Froch.

Although Barney has suffered five defeats in his career, he has operated at a much higher level than Froch, who has won 15 straight fights.

"Everything he can do, I will be able to do better," said Barney. "If he wants to box, I can out-box him and if he comes looking for me, I will be too fast for him.

"I'm not feeling nervous at all. I've wanted this fight for a long time and I'm just excited about getting the job done."

Froch, nicknamed 'The Cobra', is rated among the best prospects in British boxing and will start as a clear 6-1 on favourite.

The 28-year-old said: "Some people reckon that I am going to struggle against him because of his elusive style. Not a chance. He is going to have to fight in order to survive because I am going to jump on him from the off.

"He won't know what's hit him. He has been mouthing off about me for two years - he has made it personal. Now he is going to see what I am really all about.

"I am going to do a job on Matthew Barney like no other fighter has done before and give this city something to shout about.

"I can't wait for my hometown fans to lift the roof off of the Arena, it's going to be a sensational night."
