THE agent of Antti Niemi has attacked newspapers reports claiming the player is attracting interest from clubs in Spain.

Richard Cody says he has heard nothing from other clubs and he is fed up with reading stories about the popular Saints goalkeeper.

Villarreal and Espanyol were reported to be ready to make a move for the ex-Rangers goalkeeper, while Celtic are also said to be planning an offer.

But Cody yesterday said nothing had been happening, while boss Harry Redknapp has made it clear that he does not want to sell Niemi.

"I don't know where this is all coming from," said Cody.

"I haven't been anywhere near Scotland. We can only talk to other clubs if Southampton give their permission and nothing is currently happening with Antti."

New Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is looking for an experienced goalkeeper following the departure of Scotland international Robert Douglas to Leicester.

But manager Redknapp said: "I reckon you're talking at least £2.5m for Antti but, to be honest, I'm not even thinking about selling him. I don't want Antti to leave because I rate him one of the top four keepers in Britain."

Claus Lundekvam has also been linked with a move to Celtic and Redknapp would be prepared to let the Norwegian international leave.

He said: "Claus Lundekvam is a smashing lad who is a very experienced defender and has been a decent servant for us. If Gordon wants to make an offer, then all he has to do is pick up the phone."

Manchester City are thought to be considering a £6m bid for Peter Crouch if they lose Shaun Wright-Phillips to Chelsea. Saints yesterday said they had not received any fresh offers for the 6ft 7ins player after turning down a £5m bid from Liverpool.

Steve Stone, meanwhile, is reportedly set to join Championship rivals Leeds.

Boss Redknapp has been keen to sign the former Pompey winger, who he took to Fratton Park from Aston Villa almost three years ago.

Saints midfielder Yoann Folly, who hardly played under Redknapp last season is wanted by former club St Etienne.
