NEW mums are catching up on some precious sleep after six new cots were donated to Hythe Birth Centre.

Esso and ExxonMobil Chemical at Fawley paid £1,500 for the cots, which are designed to provide a safe and comfortable way to care for newborn babies.

Hythe Birth Centre already had one of the cots, which was bought using donations from generous parents.

It proved such a success that staff decided to appeal to ExxonMobil for funding and were delighted when the corporation stumped up the entire sum.

The cots clip on to the side of mothers' beds and provide all the closeness they need without the need to actually share a bed with their baby.

Birth centre midwife Jane Threlfall said: "On behalf of all the mums, the staff are sincerely grateful to ExxonMobil for donating the funds to enable us to provide this luxury. The feedback from parents has been excellent."

Nicola Truman of ExxonMobil said: "It is lovely to see our donation in full use. I can imagine even the slightest chance to get more comfortable sleep is warmly welcomed by new mums!"
