BASHLEY-RYDAL'S Kevin Nash grabbed the Gold Award as Wiltshire came within nine runs of causing a major Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy first-round upset against Kent at chilly South Wilts yesterday.
Nash took 4-46, including the wicket of England's Geraint Jones, and was unluckily run out in the final over as the Minor County eyed a shock win.
BAT's James Hibberd (2-23) provided Nash with full support, removing South Africa's Martin van Jaarsveld (20) and skipper David Fulton, as Kent struggled on a damp Bemerton surface.
England Test batsman Robert Key was brilliantly caught behind without scoring as Kent dipped to 114-6 before Michael Carberry (41) lifted their final score to 160 all out.
Wiltshire, left to reflect on the 21 wides they conceded, lost Western Australia left-hander Chris Rogers cheaply, but rallied through Michael Coles (32) and South Wilts skipper Russell Rowe (27).
At 114-8, Wiltshire appeared out of the contest, but a late flurry, led by Richard Bedbrook (24) and Nash left them requiring nine runs off the final over by Simon Cook (4-22).
But off Cook's first ball, Nash was narrowly run out - a decision that, in an ideal world, the third TV umpire would have ruled on - and Wiltshire were dismissed for 151.
