THE ISLE of Wight's library service is looking for volunteers to help gather people's wartime stories as part of a nationwide BBC project called The People's War.
The project aims to record the memories of people who lived through the Second World War on a special website which will then be available as an archive for future generations.
The project is looking for stories, not only of people from the armed forces directly involved in the conflict, but also from the home front - perhaps people who experienced the Blitz, worked on the land or in munitions factories, or were evacuated.
Volunteers to help record the memories can be aged 16 or above. No expertise is required but volunteers will need good communication skills to enable them to interview, and writing skills to record stories.
A short briefing session run by the BBC is being hosted by the library service on Tuesday, May 17 from 11am to 12.30pm at Newport Library.
The briefing will explain how to interview people and how to add a story to the website and will give practical information.
If you would like to volunteer, contact Linda Scurr at Newport Library on 01983 823800 or e-mail libraries@ iow.gov.uk
