LEADING with a string of steady new tracks from forthcoming album The Invisible Invasion, The Coral made a fresh and subtle start to the stage of the Portsmouth Pyramid Centre.

The crowd - still damp from the downpour of the entry queue - had to wait for the catchy, foot stomping tunes they associate best with the Merseyside lads.

Not disappointing eager listeners, The Coral had a few crowd members jumping with latest single In The Morning - destined to be a memorable summer favourite for local radio stations everywhere.

With familiar crowd pleasers Dreaming Of You and Pass It On, they managed to keep heads nodding, feet tapping and even inspired a middle-row quartet of short, blonde women to dance excitedly throughout.

The talented and versatile blend of guitar-based music, which at times resembles that of late 1960s acts such as The Doors, made the night stand out from being just another performance by a band that listeners could probably just as easily enjoy at home.
